What you need to Test remotely

1. Windows PC or Mac

You must use a Windows or Mac laptop or desktop computer to test from home. You cannot use your phone or tablet.

2. Google Chrome

You must have the latest Google Chrome web browser for Windows or Mac installed. You cannot use any other type of web browser.

3. Install Software

Once software is downloaded and installed, your environment will be checked to ensure you are able to take your Test without issues.

Yes, the Driver Theory Test service has launched a pilot phase of a new initiative, ProProctor, which offers a Remote Testing service for specific categories of Theory Test (C, D, CD, BMT, TMT, ADI, CPCB, CPCT).

During the pilot phase Remote Testing will be available on a limited basis and extra capacity will be added as it is rolled out to allow more customers to sit their bus, truck, CPC or ADI Theory Test online.

Remote Testing allows candidates to test from their home or another suitable environment once the minimum requirements for the service have been met.

No. The remote testing service is only available on laptops or desktop computers (Windows or Mac).

These are the minimum system specifications for online testing:

  • Minimum Screen Resolution: 1024 x 768 (dual-monitor setups are not permitted). Please note: CPC candidates will need to set their Scale and Layout to: Text Size 100% (Recommended) and Screen Resolution to 1920 x 1080.
  • Operating System: Windows / MacOS
  • Web Browser: Latest Google Chrome

  • Microphone: Enabled

Remote Testing is a pilot phase and available initially on a limited basis for the following categories of theory test: C, D, CD, BMT, TMT, ADI, CPCB, CPCT.

Extra capacity will be added as it is rolled out to allow more customers to sit their bus, truck, CPC or ADI Theory Test online.

Following a review of the pilot phase we expect the initiative to be extended for car and motorcycles in the future.

Your testing environment must meet the following minimum guidelines:

  • Testing location must be indoors (walled), well-lit, free from background noise and disruptions.
  • No third-party may be present in the room or enter the room for the duration of the exam. If this occurs, your exam will be terminated and/or your results invalidated.
  • Your workstation and surrounding area must be free of pens, paper, electronic devices etc. No content that could potentially provide an unfair advantage during your exam, including that posted on walls or within your immediate area, should be present during your exam session.

Yes, you can reschedule your exam from a Test Centre to Remote Testing (ProProctor) or from Remote Testing to a Test Centre.

You can reschedule your booking providing the request is made no later than 5 business days (to include 3 complete business days) prior to your test date.

For example, to reschedule or cancel a Test booked for a Friday you must inform us on the previous Monday or for a Test booked for a Saturday you must inform us on the previous Monday.

Alternatively, please call our Candidate Services Team on 1890 606 106 (Lo-call rate) Monday to Friday from 8AM to 6PM. to arrange a reschedule. Please ensure you have run the System Readiness Check and your system meets the requirements for Remote Testing.

You can use the System Readiness Check on the official ProProctor website.

It will determine whether your system is compatible to install and run the ProProctor application so that you can take your Theory Test from home.

In order to start an exam, you are required to:

  • Show your ID as listed in the form at the bottom of this page.
  • Show your eligibility as listed on the booking page if applicable (eg B licence for Category C Theory Test takers).
  • Show your workstation and surrounding area.
  • Raise your trouser legs above your ankles, empty and turn all pockets inside-out and raise shirt sleeves above your wrists prior to every entry into the online test. If you are wearing eyeglasses you will be required to remove them for visual inspection to ensure they don’t contain a recording device.
  • Remove large jewellery items from your person prior to and throughout the duration of the exam.
  • Pull your hair back to ensure nothing is attached to your ear that could provide an unfair advantage – i.e. a bluetooth earpiece.
  • Unauthorised personal items may not be accessible while testing. Such items include, but are not limited to: outerwear, hats, food, drinks, handbags, bags or briefcases, notebooks, watches, cell phones, electronic devices, or wearable technology.
  • Eating, drinking, smoking, and chewing gum are prohibited during the exam.
  • Written notes, published materials and other testing aids are strictly prohibited.
  • Light clothing items removed for comfort such as jumpers, suit jackets, scarves, etc must be hung on the examinee’s chair, not placed in laps or on the workstation desktop. Outerwear such as heavy coats, parkas, rain coats, etc is not permitted in the immediate testing area.

Changing location while testing, turning off lighting or audio, speaking to or receiving aid from other individuals is strictly prohibited.

Audio and Video monitoring is required to complete the Remote Testing process. These recordings are held for a maximum of 30 days and held in accordance with our Privacy Policy Guidelines.

If you get disconnected due to poor internet or laptop failure etc, you will be allowed to restart your Test a maximum of three times.

If you disconnect more that three times your exam will be cancelled and you will lose your Test fee.

You will forfeit your Test fee.

If you don’t present the appropriate ID for your Theory Test you will not be permitted to test and you will forfeit your Test fee.

If testing via Remote Testing/testing at home you will receive an email with a link to your results shortly after completing your exam.

If you are successful in passing your exam a pass certificate will be issued to you by post in approximately five working days.

You can now apply online for your Learner Permit at the National Driver Licence Service (NDLS) website. All you need is your Public Services Card and your verified MyGovID.

There is no need to complete paper forms, book appointments or attend an NDLS centre. Read more about NDLS Online.

Scheduling your Test

Personal Data Privacy Disclosure & Consent

At Prometric, protection of your personal data and information, and making sure you understand how and why it is processed, is of paramount importance to us. As a data processor for your test sponsor, Prometric processes your personal information only for the purposes of registering and scheduling you for a test, administering that test, and processing the results. At no time will your personal information be used by Prometric for any other purpose without your permission. Your personal information, including your test results, will be provided to your test sponsor for the purposes of providing scores, certification, or other test-related services. The full Prometric Privacy Policy, including instructions for submitting a data subject request, can be found at Prometric.com.

We may employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Our employees, agents and contractors who have access to personal data and information are required to protect the information in a manner that is consistent with the Prometric Privacy Policy and upholds the confidentiality of the information and the rights of data subjects, and we seek assurances from such third parties that they will provide the same level of privacy protection as Prometric requires of its employees and adheres to, including in regards to applicable data protection law. We do not transfer information to third parties who are not acting as Prometric’s agent or on Prometric’s behalf under an appropriate contractual relationship.

Prometric LLC is headquartered in the United States of America; however, all personal data collected is stored in the EU within our secure datacentre located in Dublin for RSA, and is retained for a period of two years per legal and contractual requirements. Prometric will always protect the privacy and security of personal data, regardless of the location of the individual where it is originally collected or ultimately processed or stored. Personal Data that is collected and processed from you, the data subject and/or exam candidate, is authorised through your application and/or contract with the RSA take an exam, your registration and scheduling through Prometric, and the collection of your express consent by clicking “I Consent” below.

Prometric maintains certification to the EU Privacy Shield as well as the Swiss/U.S. Privacy Shield for the purposes of transfers of Personal Data from the European Economic Area; however, we also rely on standard contractual clauses between Prometric’s European-based entities and its entities located elsewhere in the world that process personal information, and we also enter into data processing agreements with our clients and vendors. At any time, you may request access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction, or object to the processing of your Personal Data, or make inquiries, requests, complaints, or withdraw consent related thereto by contacting your test sponsor during normal business hours. You may also submit a Data Subject Access Request directly to Prometric at at Prometric.com/DataSubjectRequests.

Video & Audio Monitoring

Prometric deploys Digital Video Recording (DVR or CCTV) throughout its network of test delivery locations. Where allowed by applicable law this includes audio-recordings within the reception/locker, proctor/security check-in, and test lab areas. This is necessary in order to protect the security of high-stakes proprietary test content, the integrity of the test delivery experience, to deter fraud and cheating, to protect against theft and pilferage, and for the security of staff and company property. Access to the recorded material will be strictly limited to authorized personnel and retained for a period as allowed by local applicable law.

In the remote-proctoring platform (“ProProctor”), Prometric collects video-recordings that include audio recordings from the start of the check-in process and throughout the duration of the test. At times, this will include your desk and workspace. You and your workspace, your desk, and the sounds within your workspace will be monitored in real-time, captured and recorded during the testing session in order to protect the security of high-stakes proprietary test content, the integrity of the test delivery experience, to deter fraud and cheating, to protect against theft and pilferage. Access to ProProctor recordings will be strictly limited to authorised personnel and retained for a period of thirty (30) days, or as otherwise allowed by applicable law (i.e. legal evidence).

The collection, transfer, processing, use and storage of your Personal Data is necessary to administer a test to you. You must contact your test sponsor if you do not consent to the collection, transfer, processing, use and storage of your Personal Data.

By proceeding to register and schedule your test today, you acknowledge, agree and consent to the audio and video recording of your test experience, and for remotely proctored exams this includes your desk and personal workspace. You acknowledge and agree to be monitored during the testing session in real time and recorded during the testing session, and acknowledge and agree that there is no right to privacy during the test check-in process or test session and explicitly waive any and all claims asserting a right to or violation of your privacy with regards thereto.

I acknowledge that by checking “I consent” below that I am expressly consenting to the collection and processing of my Personal Data, as required by my test sponsor, which may include video and audio recordings, data and assessment results, and that such consent is effective until and unless I affirmatively withdraw that consent in writing to my test sponsor or via Prometric.com/DataSubjectRequests.
